Gigabyte Launches New Super Overclock Graphics CardsĪfter winning unanimous acclaims from game-players for the triple-channel Xtreem DDR3 2000 and Xtreem DDR3 1866 modules, Team introduces the brand new Xtreem LV (low voltage) DDR3 series targeted at high frequency and low latency. To what scale will the briefings be held, or how ready are they with engineering samples is not known as yet, but possibly enough to gain public attention for its DirectX 11 GPUs. Meanwhile, the green camp is reportedly readying its own press-briefings of the GT300 GPU. In essence, AMD ends up with all the limelight for the better part of the quarter, in the run up for the crucial November~December shopping season.
AMD's itinerary for September looks fairly clear: press-briefings on and around the 10th (we'll be heading to Munich for ours), a number of previews that follow, and launches towards the end of the month, and market availability soon after, in October. The party-crasher this time around is NVIDIA's GT300 graphics processor, which sources claim to be continuing on NVIDIA's design methodology of a powerful, monolithic GPU. It looks like NVIDIA doesn't want AMD to drench the media and consumers with enough hype to ensure a smooth, profitable launch of its "Evergreen" family of DirectX 11 GPUs. The P55M-UD2 has begun getting listings on etailers for US $99.45. Connectivity options include 10 external and four internal USB 2.0 ports, two Firewire 400 ports, eSATA, PS/2 mouse-keyboard combo connector, and 8-channel audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF output connectors. An additional Gigabyte G-SATA controller provides two internal SATA 3 Gb/s ports and an IDE connector for two devices. Of the six SATA 3 Gb/s ports the P55 PCH provides, five are internal, and one assigned as eSATA. Unlike its UD4 cousin, this board doesn't split the PCI-E x16 slot to two electrical x8 slots, and it doesn't support NVIDIA SLI technology either. Expansion slots include one PCI-E 2.0 x16, one PCI-E x16 (electrical x4), and two PCI slots along the way. It is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots for dual-channel memory. The socket LGA-1156 processor is powered by a 6+1 phase VRM. Utilizing the Ultra Durable 3 construction, Gigabyte ensures low-price doesn't make way for low-quality. This model confirms that there will be motherboards based on the Intel P55 chipset, that are priced under US $100. Gigabyte's recently detailed lineup of socket LGA-1156 processors includes the now-pictured P55M-UD2 entry-level motherboard based on the micro-ATX form factor.
